New Breeding values and New TMI

In October the new breeding goal and new weights in TMI is launched. The new breeding goal has been set after discussions during the last spring by dairy farmers participating in the breeding councils and breed association. The new goals show the expectations and wishes from the Swedish dairy farmers on the cow for tomorrow.


   The new TMI focuses even more on udder health, fertility and udder conformation. Instead breeding values like growth, temperament and stature have left the TMI but will still be declared. Relatively the progress for milk will not be as high as before, but the progress for udder, calvings and fertility will be much higher when selection according to the new TMI. Some changes have also been made in the breeding value for udder - now rear teat placement and teat thickness is included. The new TMI favour bulls those are strong for health, fertility and calvning ease - bulls that are strong for the Svensk Avel profile.
