Comments breeding values October

This time it has been more changes then usual due to the change from TMI to NTM

Swedish Red

This time it has been more changes then usual due to the change from TMI to NTM.  Some bulls come out as winners in the new system and some loose – even if they keep their indexes for the individual traits. So remember to look at the declaration for the individual breeding values and make up your own ranking on what is most important for you. We also have the pleasure to introduce a new top bull – Inlag II – but so far there is no semen available as he just entered the barn last week.

Inlag II is a Peterslund out of a Nystrand and got a very balanced proof with a NTM of +30He transmits high production along with strong health traits – like daughter fertility, calving ease and mastitis resistance. The daughters have excellent udders and very good legs.  We predict to have semen available in the beginning of December for export.

92232 St Hallebo (Hällvik/Stöpafors/Backgård NTM+30. St Hallebo shares the top position with Inlag II and has not changed much after the conversion. St Hallebo has a very good index for hoof health – that is now an official breeding value. He gives daughters with high protein production. Theexcellent daughters fertility is now back on 111. The proof for udder health is also outstanding 117. St Hallebo gives well attached, shallow udders with strong ligaments and has a composit breeding value for udder as high as 120. St Hallebos dam 614 Saba left the herd this February after more than four lactations with an average of 10 341 kg milk, 4,5% fat and 3,7% protein. She was a cow with an excellent conformation. St Hallebo is in full production and produce well, but internationall  and domestic  deman is very high.

92263 G Edbo (Botans x Syd Abru)NTM+27. G Edbo is now the next bull on the list.  G Edbo is maternal half-brother to 2104 Gunnarstorp. The dam is still going strong! G Edbo is still  in the absolute top for production with a production index of 124. He improves daughter fertility and give very easy calvings, booth as sire as well as MGS. The only things to observe for this bull are the slightly lower breeding value for udder health along with the breeding value for udders that are average. The udders are well attached but have weak centre ligament.

93829 Botans (Ingvastax Skogsberg) NTM +26. Grand old Botans is one of the winners of the new NTM – as hs excellence for production really pays. The change in the index for other diceases has also worked for this great bull with more than 7000 daugthers..

92269 Fimta (Hällvik x Backgård) NTM +25. Anther son in the line from Hällvik with a strong TMI. Fimta is a bull that improves production along with daughter fertility. He is also positive for udders and gives robust but tall cows.

92112 Arbelunda (Flaka/Abru) is one of the bulls that has changed the most in the ranking.  You now find hi on NTM+19. That doesn’t change the fact that he is one outstanding transmitter of functional traits, but his production is low and that shows in the new NTM.

We can offer sexed semen from the two high ranking bulls - O Brolin and Långbo.
