New breeding values, August

Test-day model

The breeding evaluation 15th of august was the first one using the test-day model for production and no longer 305 days lactation. This improvement of method has lead to some larger changes then what we usually see from one evaluation to another.

NAV breeding values for calvings

We do now jointly evaluate also calvings for red bulls in Sweden, Denmark and Finland. The new model includes data from not only first lactation, but also additional information from later lactations. The new joint base also effects the breeding values.

New TMI

Next breeding evaluation 15th of October will involve even more improvements of models, when the new joint TMI (for Finland, Sweden and Denmark) will be released for the first time. Bulls will then be comparable also for TMI within the three countries. The new TMI will include milking speed and temperament, but beside that there will be minor changes to the TMI we have today for SRB. More information will of cause follow later.

Elmia – National Show in Sweden

Our national show will take place October 22-25th in Jönköping, Sweden. The Dairy cows will be shown 23rd of October. You are welcome to come and enjoy the show and see beautiful SRB cows.

New bulls!

We have two new bulls at the list, G Edbo and Fimta.

92263 G Edbo (Botans x Syd Abru)TMI+26. G Edbo is maternal half-brother to 2104 Gunnarstorp. The dam is still going strong! G Edbo is in the absolute top for production with an production index of 127. He improves daughter fertility and give very easy calvings, booth as sire as well as MGS. The only things to observe for this bull are the slightly lower breeding value for udder health along with the breeding value for udders that are average. The udders are well attached but have weak centre ligament.

G Edebos dam, so far she has produced 75 tons of milk.

92269 Fimta (Hällvik x Backgård) TMI+23. Anther son in the line from Hällvik with a strong TMI. Fimta is a bull that improves production along with daughter fertility. He is also positive for udders and give robust but tall cows.

St Hallebo is still in top, now followed by 2112 Arbelunda.

92232 St Hallebo (Hällvik/Stöpafors/BackgårdTMI+34. St Hallebo gives daughters with high protein production and his production index is 113, witch is lower than in may. He combines this with an excellent daughters fertility of 119, with is an improvement from the 112 he had before. The proof for udder health is also outstanding 115. St Hallebo gives well attached, shallow udders with strong ligaments and has a composit breeding value for udder as high as 120. St Hallebos dam 614 Saba left the herd this February after more than four lactations with an average of 10 341 kg milk, 4,5% fat and 3,7% protein. She was a cow with an excellent conformation. St Hallebo is in full production and produce well so we have now started to distribute the first semen internationally.

#2 92112 Arbelunda (Flaka/Abru) has improved again and now has TMI+29. Arbelunda transmits excellent daughter fertility – 121! The udder health is at the same high level – 120. Arbelunda is a solid calving-ease bull as sire and the daughters have very good calving ability, 110. Arbelundas only minus is that his EBV for production is a bit low. The reason for the improvement is a strong longevity proof -119 and his dam is a good example. She is a fantastic cow; she is still going strong and has so far produced 80 tons and 6 calves. After her fifth calf she was scored 90 for total with 96 for legs! What a cow!

Arbelundas dam, august 2008

Grand-old Peterslund is now 3rd on the list with TMI+28. He has kept his proof very well and has now exceeded 19 000 daughters in his proofs! This gives him an extraordinary position as a high ranking bull with high reliability. As you probably already have heard Peterslund is no longer alive, but there is still some semen available from this superior bull.

O Brolin (Ipollo/Öju Mabru) with a TMI of +27. O Brolin is the team leader for longevity with an EBV of 130! Have an extra look at this all-rounder. O Brolin combines all important traits for profitability – fertility, calving ease, longevity along with production with a very good conformation. O Brolin is along with Långbo and Tålebo sent to Denmark for semen sexing.

92182 S(kye) Adam (Botans/T-Bruno) TMI+25. S Adam has a Scandinavian profile which combines production, health traits and conformation. S Adam has lost some on daughter fertility since last proof run due to more daughters included in the information – but he is still on the strong 106. The dam, 743 Ada, is a very good cow and still going strong. She has so far produced 75 000 kg and the calving interval is 12,7 months.  S Adam was influenced by the improvements of the new calving model and has somewhat lower indexes for calvings, 106 resp. 117 with still is in the absolute top-class!

93829 Botans is another bull with high reliability. He now has more than 7 000 daughters in his proofs and keeps a position among the highest TMI bulls with +25. Botans combines high production with calving ease and health.
